Russell spent most of his time playing golf at the club. Likewise, his mom Sally, and brother Adam also played pivotal roles in his career and life. Together, they dealt with the emotional challenges after their father’s death.
Henley studied at Stratford Academy and later joined the University of Georgia where he dedicated four years playing college golf. He majored in Consumer Economics from the University of Georgia. Henley had a remarkable collegiate career, where he received the Haskins Award winner in 2010. During his time at Georgia, he led the Bulldogs to an SEC title. Along with that, he earned several accolades.
Professional Career
Russell Henley appeared in his first professional golf event at the Nationwide Tour’s Soboba Golf Classic. A year after turning professional, he secured the victory at the Chiquita Classic. Then, he competed at the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open and got his second title. In 2012, he graduated to the PGA Tour from the Web.com Tour after finishing in third place on the money list. In January 2013, he recorded a win at the Sony Open in Hawaii. With that, he was named the first PGA Tour rookie who got victory in his debut 12 years.
Russell secured his second PGA Tour victory at the Honda Classic in March 2014. He won the title in difficult conditions shooting a two-over-par round of 72. Russell was one of the four golfers to locate the green in two at the first playoff hole. As a result of his win at the Honda Classic, he secured a place at the upcoming Masters.
Henley recorded his third PGA Tour win at the Shell Houston Open in April 2017. In the final round, he shot 65 including 10 birdies and a double-bogey on the ninth hole. He eventually won the title by 3 shots defeating runner-up, Kang Sung-hoon. With the victory, he secured a place in the upcoming Masters, and in the PGA Championship.
In 2021, Henley started well while competing at the 2021 U. S. Open holding a lead in the first three rounds. However, he could not continue good form in the final round and ultimately finished in a tie for 13th. Henley recorded his debut PGA Tour victory at the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship. Henley subsequently got the best finish in major after finishing fourth at the 2023 Masters Tournament.

Russell Henley shares a strong bond with his wife, Teil Duncan, who is a painter by profession. The pair met first time in 2015 at Teil’s sister’s wedding. During that time, they connected through their mutual friend. Within a short time, they got closer and eventually began dating. They got engaged in 2014 in Mount Pleasant on the Pitt Street Bridge. The couple exchanged wedding vows in South Carolina on October 30, 2015.
Henley’s wife, Teil currently works as a full-time painter at a studio based in Charleston, South Carolina. She holds a degree in Art from Auburn University. Teil has written and published a book titled “The Color Teil: Life, Work and Insipiration”.
Duncan has always shown support for Russell’s golf career. She often attended his golf tournaments and cheered him on. Together they are parenting three kids, Robert, Ruth and Jane.
