Early Life

Kelly Loeffler was born in November 1970 in Bloomington, Illinois. She was born to Lynda and Don Loeffler. Kelly and her brother, Brian grew up on her family’s soybean farm based in Stanford, Illinois. She received high school graduation from Olympia High School in 1988. During high school, she played varsity basketball and was in the marching band. Kelly then attended the University of Illinois and obtained a degree in marketing in 1992.

Loeffler enrolled at DePaul University and earned an MBA degree in International finance and marketing in 1999. She had to mortgage the land that she inherited from her grandparents to finance her school education. Loeffler had a passion for service from a young age. She revealed that she was the first member of her family to graduate from college. Loeffler was motivated to make the most of her academic degree. Career

Kelly Loefler became associated with Intercontinental Exchange in investor relations in 2002. Within a short period, she was promoted to senior vice president of corporate communications and investor relations. Kelly eventually became the CEO of Bakkt in 2018, which is a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange. In 2010, she purchased a minority share in the WNBA’s professional basketball team, the Atlanta Dream. Kelly sold her share in February 2021 after she received backlash from WNBA players due to her controversial opinion on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Loeffler was appointed to the United States Senate on December 4, 2019, by Georgia Governor, Brian Kemp. She filled the seat vacated by former senator, Johnny Isakson. Kelly eventually became the second lady to be appointed to the US Senate in Georgia after Rebecca Latimer Felton. She was sworn into the Senate in January 2020. During her brief tenure in the US Senate, she allied herself with Donald Trump and often recognized herself as the most conservative Republican in the US Senate.
